Brian Kuzma – Founder & Portfolio Manager
Brian Kuzma is the Founder and Portfolio Manager of Thomist Capital. He is responsible for all of the firm’s investment decisions. An engineer by training, Brian has over 24 years of experience in the energy industry, including 17 years of institutional investment experience. Brian’s investment expertise spans a wide range of industries including energy, basic materials, power generation, and AI. Prior to founding Thomist in 2018, Brian was a portfolio manager at Citadel where he ran a predominantly energy equity book for the Commodity and Global Equity platforms. Before Citadel, he was a senior analyst at George Weiss Associates. Brian began his career as an engineer at ExxonMobil before joining RBC and J.P. Morgan as a research associate. Brian earned a BS in engineering from Cornell University.
Logan Moncrief – Partner & COO
Logan Moncrief is a Partner at Thomist Capital, where he manages all of the firm’s operations and internal processes. Prior to Thomist, Logan served as Portfolio Manager and Chief Financial Officer at Moncrief Willingham Energy Advisors, a long/short energy focused hedge fund that invested across the capital structure. In addition to leading the firm’s investment process, Logan oversaw the fund’s financial reporting and regulatory filing activity. He began his investing career as an associate at J.P. Morgan Partners in New York where he focused on investments in the energy, industrial, and manufacturing industries. Logan earned his BS in finance from the University of Virginia, where he attended as a Jefferson Scholar.
